It's their wonderful soft fur which distinguishes Rex rabbits from all others - rex fur has guard hairs and undercoat of the same length, so that it stands up instead of lying flat. It looks and feels just like velvet - hence their nickname, "velveteen rabbits". Once you've felt rex fur, it's unmistakable - and addictive. Standard Rex rabbits have an adult weight of 7.5-10.5 pounds. Mini Rex rabbits are about half the size - 3-5 pounds. Both breeds come in many different colors - solid, agouti, shaded and broken.

Part of the mutation which created rex fur also affects the whiskers, which are short and kinky instead of being long and straight as in other rabbits. |

Mini Rex rabbits are known for their intelligence and personality, and
make great companions. As you can tell, I'm a bit prejudiced - I've had three of them.
