Lionhead rabbits have a single or double "mane" of longer fur around their heads like a small lion, with short fur over most of their bodies. They may also have longer fur on their hindquarters, so they look like they're wearing fuzzy leggings. Lionheads are small rabbits, between 2.5 and 3.5 pounds adult weight.
The Lionhead breed is relatively new - while it has been recognized in the UK since 2002, it was only accepted by ARBA at the 2013 show in Harrisburg, PA, effective February 1, 2014. At this time, only Ruby Eyed White (REW) and Tortoise (Blue, Black, Chocolate, Lilac) are recognized by ARBA. Several varieties and colors such as: Blue Eyed White, Chocolate, Sable Point, Seal, Siamese Sable, Smoke Pearl, Smoke Pearl Point are in the process of being recognized by ARBA, and Lionheads can be found in many other color variations.
